Ricky May was named vice president of sales and marketing for Las Vegas Motor Speedway in May 2001. Ricky oversees the speedway's marketing, advertising, sales and promotions. Ricky has worked in the sports marketing industry since his graduation from the University of North Carolina in 1980. He began his professional career as assistant general manager for the Kinston Indians of the Carolina League. He then became general manager of the Durham Bulls, a franchise made famous by the movie "Bull Durham." In 1984, he joined the athletic department at the University of Louisville as assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions. Ricky's first venture into motorsports came with Valvoline Oil Company, where he served as a director of sports marketing and worked with such notable drivers as Al Unser Jr. and Mark Martin. Entrepreneurial by nature, Ricky left Valvoline and started two businesses - a licensed sports store called Pro Image and a professional baseball team in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A native of Ahoskie, N.C., Ricky is single.
